A nation with no rules is a nation that will soon crumble. The Bible mentions that a city without walls will perish. We cannot live in a world without limits. We cannot live in a nation without boundaries. We cannot live in a state without law and order. We cannot live in a city with no structure. A home must have a clear set of standards in order for a family to survive.

No one wants to live in a place without order. Every institution and corporation has a set of values and a mission statement. What is your purpose, function, and goal? Where is your life headed? What is the point of your existence? You must have some rules and guidelines to navigate towards that goal. It is no different than driving north on Interstate 95. The car must remain between the lines to arrive at your destination safely. You must read the signs to know which direction to travel. Nothing in this life is free. The world does not bend for you or for me. We must remain obedient and adjust to any obstacles. We must adjust to people and circumstances. But none of this is possible without rules and parameters. In some countries, crime is controlled by permitting the acts in one particular area. Even in these extreme circumstances: there is a limit.

We must have rules. You cannot do what you want to do. You cannot have anything you want to have. You cannot take whatever you want to take. Imagine if someone took your money without your permission. Is that acceptable? No. Your money is sacred. That also means you cannot take money from other people. Can someone take your home from you? No. Your property is sacred. Which means we must honor the property of others. We must treat people the way we want to be treated. This is the "Golden Rule". Jesus said it first.

The rules allow different types of people to live together in harmony. The Ten Commandments permit people who are different from one another to live together in harmony. But even the Commandments must be obeyed. Obedience is key.

Imagine a football game with no sideline and no referees. How can you play the game if the running back has no sideline to contain him? You will never make the tackle. What if the game of baseball had no three strike limit? How would you get the batter out? What if basketball had eight hoops on the court instead of two? That game would be insane. Life is the same way. There must be a limit to the action. There must be a limit to the pleasure.

A limit to pleasure that preserves sanity and maintains dignity is for a man to have one wife. Anymore than that will lead to an out of balance life. Cannot live without limits. Cannot survive without rules.
